Come to events - and bring your friends…

Show Up and Use Your Voice.

Individually, we don’t have the power to hold political leaders accountable for the fairness or justice of their actions and policies. But the Bible (Nehemiah 5: 1-13) has provided us with a successful model for building “people power” and driving necessary changes in a community.

We will follow Nehemiah’s example by bringing together large numbers of people at least once a year in a “Nehemiah Action” Assembly. The Nehemiah Action culminates our Research to Action process - we show our people power and encourage officials to implement solutions which solve serious community problems. See below for more details about our first Nehemiah Action on Monday April 4th at 6:30 pm!!!

Let’s roll like a Mighty Stream and create a wave of change in Manatee County!

Nehemiah Action Assembly

Monday, April 4th

6:30 pm

WE WILL UPDATE THIS PAGE REGULARLY - CHECK BELOW FOR THE LATEST UPDATES!

What to Expect:

  • ALL members and leaders will bring at least 3 others with them.

  • When you arrive, you will need to drop off your completed ticket (or complete one at the door).

  • We will be respectful (no jeering, shouting, booing, etc.) at all times - just as we expect others to treat us with respect.

  • We will present our ask(s) and get commitments from local leaders on concrete steps for solving affordable housing/homelessness and criminal justice problems.

    • We plan to discuss providing additional affordable housing units to lower-income households who currently cannot afford housing in Manatee County.

We plan to discuss pre-arrest civil citations so that people are not “branded for life” for nonviolent misdemeanor offenses (such as expired licenses and registrations).

  • Why?

    • Our housing supply may be affordable for more affluent professionals / retirees, seasonal residents, vacation homeowners, or tourists - but not the essential workers and citizens who are the backbone (and heart) of a community. Skyrocketing housing costs are harming our businesses, residents, and ultimately the future of our economy and community.

    • We don’t have to be “soft” on crime to be “smart” on crime.  We can adopt more effective, less costly policies that don’t criminalize poverty or perpetuate a poverty cycle by making it far more difficult to earn a job, education, or housing (for anyone with the most minor of offenses).
